Upper Hill Boys High School has emerged triumphant in an invigorating debating competition organized by the Sahara Group's Asharami Synergy Kenya. The event drew participation from five prominent secondary schools within Nairobi County and unfolded its fervent discourse at KCA University in Nairobi on Saturday, March 2, 2024. Notable contenders included Upper Hill Boys High School, The Alliance High School, Alliance Girls High School, Moi Girls School Nairobi, and State House Girls School Nairobi.

Debola Adesanya, the county manager for Asharami Synergy Kenya, elucidated that the competition stands as a beacon for fostering generational sustainability. "Following closely contested rounds, Upper Hill Boys High School emerged as the preeminent debate team," Adesanya remarked. The competition's judicious examination of environmental sustainability issues echoed the imperative to engage young Kenyans in consequential dialogues.

Second and third positions were clinched by State House Girls High School and The Alliance High School, respectively. The enthralling topics traversed during the event encompassed the accountability of the affluent for environmental degradation, the efficacy of energy-saving light bulbs, and the global necessity of banning plastics forthwith.

Adesanya accentuated the paramount importance of nurturing a sustainable future by integrating the perspectives of Kenya's vibrant youth into the discourse. "Asharami Synergy Kenya ardently believes that safeguarding our planet hinges upon the active participation of all stakeholders, particularly our youth," Adesanya emphasized.

The praiseworthy efforts of the winning teams were commemorated with trophies, while standout speakers were rewarded with laptops and tablets, underscoring Asharami Synergy Kenya's steadfast commitment to educational advancement and environmental stewardship. Lavinah Gonah, operations supervisor at Asharami Synergy Kenya, extolled the exemplary performances of the participating students and their mentors, pledging continued support for such endeavors.

Lead Judge Winnie Otieno lauded the competition as an invaluable catalyst for driving environmental sustainability efforts across Kenya. "The students have not only gained knowledge but also shared invaluable insights. We express our heartfelt gratitude to Asharami and Sahara Group for this enriching experience," Otieno expressed.

Ryan Theuri, bestowed with the title of Best Male Speaker from Upper Hill Boys High School, articulated his profound gratitude for the opportunity. "This accolade holds immense significance for me as I've harbored a fervent passion for debating since childhood. I firmly believe that the youth's active engagement in environmental debates is pivotal for our collective future," Theuri articulated.

Titiana Ogolla, the distinguished recipient of the Best Female Speaker award from State House Girls School, Nairobi, underscored the profound impact of the debate preparation process. "Winning this award has been a humbling experience. Engaging in the debate has broadened my horizons, deepened my understanding of environmental challenges, and reinforced my belief in our collective responsibility as youth to shape the future," Ogolla reflected.

Obed Imbosi, recognized as the Outstanding Speaker of the day from Upper Hill Boys High School, lauded the enlightening discourse and commended Sahara Group and Asharami Synergy for their visionary initiative. "These debates have been incredibly enlightening. It's commendable that Sahara Group and Asharami Synergy have extended their outreach to Kenyan youth, fostering meaningful dialogues on pressing issues that shape our collective destiny," Imbosi emphasized, highlighting the pivotal role of such initiatives in Kenya's trajectory toward sustainable development.
